Natural Resources

The Natural Resources section works in cooperation with all military services’ pest management and natural resources programs to support DoD policy development and consultation regarding:  (a) endangered and invasive species, and (b) natural habitat and/or cultural resources protection, restoration, and mitigation.  We also work with the Natural Resources Committee of the AFPMB to develop policy and guidance for all pests (i.e. native and non-native species of arthropods, plants and wildlife) in the natural environment on military installations. These policy recommendations are forwarded to DoD and/or the appropriate service(s) for staffing and concurrence.  We maintain liaisons with the DoD Conservation Committee, attending monthly meetings and providing updates on invasive species and pest management.

The AFPMB also serves as the DoD representative to the National Invasive Species Council (NISC), the Federal Interagency Committee for the Management of Noxious and Exotic Weeds (FICMNEW - Subscribe to the e-mail list,  Example of listserv topics), and the Invasive Terrestrial Animal and Pathogens (ITAP) Committee. We also work with state and local government agencies, as well as non-governmental organizations, to share and obtain the most current expertise available. On this page we provide starting points for what we feel are the most pertinent references to DoD managers.

The instructions for pest management on DoD installations can be found in DoDI 4150.07:  DoD Pest Management Program. The Integrated Pest Management program requirements are found in Enclosures 4 & 5. Further information on DoD pest management and training requirements are found in DoDM 4150.07-M, DoD Pest Management Training and Certification Manual. The DoD Natural Resources Program also provides detailed information on DoD natural resources and conservation initiatives.

United States Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) is responsible for movement of all DoD personnel and equipment. In Defense Transportation Regulation (DTR) 4500.9R you will find the requirements for deployment of troops and equipment.  In addition, AFPMB TG 31 provides guidance on how to properly clean and inspect military equipment during retrograde operations.
